Detroit, MI – Two Muslim women at Barack Obama’s rally were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women’s headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.

The two different Obama volunteers – in separate incidents– made it clear that headscarves wouldn’t be in the picture. The volunteers gave different explanations for excluding the hijabs, one bluntly political and the other less clear.
One volunteer explained that because of the political climate and what’s going on in the world and what’s going on with Muslim Americans it’s not good to be seen on TV or associated with Obama, wearing a headscarf.
In the other incident, the volunteer said she would have to take the headscarf off or stay out of the special section. They declined the seats.
The campaign has apologized to the women, all Obama supporters who said they felt betrayed by their treatment at the rally.
“This is of course not the policy of the campaign. It is offensive and counter to Obama’s commitment to bring Americans together and simply not the kind of campaign we run,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton. “We sincerely apologize for the behavior of these volunteers.”

the point is that he doesn’t want to be seen with muslims. And if you think that one of the volunteers did this on their own, I have a bridge to sell you. This is not the first time. They have in the past put white people behind him in the tv shot on purpose.

You guys are nuts. this was a couple of stupid volunteers that ihave nothing to do with campaign policy or obama himself.
There are real issues and real concerns to have with obama. everytime you jump on something silly like this it undermines the reall actual legitimate issues we could have – and it gives more fodder for them to say its a smear and add to their “stop the smears”

Whoa, Obama is clearly hypocritical and two faced. While it may be true that this was just 2 dumb volenteers, there’s no way that he would argue with what they did, and if he would then that makes him one really stupid person.
