Brooklyn prosecutors say Yitzchak Shuchat pleaded not guilty Friday to second-degree assault as a hate crime, attempted assault and other charges.

Bail was set at $300,000. His attorney didn’t return a message.

Prosecutors say the Orthodox Jewish defendant beat 21-year-old Andrew Charles with a baton and tried to beat his friend in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The alleged victims are black.

U.S. marshals brought Shuchat to New York on Thursday.

Shuchat surrendered his passport and a judge issued orders of protection for Charles, his friend and witnesses.

Authorities say he went to Israel via Canada.

How about an order of protection for Yitzy Shuchat? HE is in more danger in Rikers & even if he makes bail. And FTR even though I wasn’t there, I know Shomrim, they saved MY life & I know they are not hotheads. I just don’t trust the system for Orthodox Jews., especially not now.

His arrest happened during the three weeks, a time that we are supposed to improve on ahavas chinam. He was pinpointed in this alleged attack because of the sinas chinam between rival Shomrim and Shmira nieghborhood watch groups in Crown Heights.

Yitz went to Canada because his first wife left there. When that marriage failed / ended two years later. He met and married secondwife. They have two sons.
You write in your article as if he ran away to Canada and then Israel. This all transpired from 2008 to 2014.
