Israel – Religious Zionism Calls To Boycott Ultra Ortodox Over Rabbi Drukman’s Annulled Conversions

    20

Israel – Nearly two months have passed since the High Rabbinical Court annulled Rabbi Chaim Drukman’s conversions, but the religious Zionism refuses to forget: After conducting solidarity rallies, the national-religious public is encouraged for the first time to fight back, by cutting off donations to the ultra-Orthodox yeshiva institutions

In a an article written by former Tzohar Rabbinical Organization’s Director-General Rabbi Hagai Gross, he proposes to close the door on Orthodox fundraisers, explaining that “this is mandatory in order to make the Orthodox community understand that the spiritual war they have waged on the religious Zionist world bears a financial price as well.”

In his article titled “Rabbi Drukman and the religious Zionism pride,” Rabbi Gross argues that the religious Zionist public must consider responding differently than before, showing it will no longer serve as punching bag.

“The earth would have shattered a long time ago had something like this happened in the Orthodox community,” Gross writes, coming up with two proposals: One is to prevent the national-religious crowd from participating in Orthodox events, unless they are provided catering koshered by the Rabbinate, with vegetables permitted for sale or belonging to the court.

The second proposal calls to refrain from making donations to Orthodox institutions. “Why not say to those knocking on our door asking for donations something like, ‘We are in favor of supporting Torah studies but would rather support the world of religious Zionist studies, including yeshivas and yeshiva students belonging to our community.’”

Rabbi Gross further supports the second proposal by saying that as it is, the religious Zionist institutions have not been receiving government funding. He claims it is impossible to have the Orthodox continue running Israel’s spiritual affairs and determine its Jewish identity while the religious Zionist community remains outside the country’s security, economy and social activity.

“I believe these ideas are valid… Even if they are rejected by the great rabbis of our community for some reason, it is still important to give a platform for the new spirit inspiring the national religious community.”

Rabbi Hagai Gross has made statements fueling the divisions being created by the recent conversion controversy

rather than fanning the flames with self serving pronouncements – perhaps a critical response to the allegations by the Bet din against Rabbi Druckman – based on halacha not personal feelings and politics – would be more productive

But then again.. perhaps he is not looking for EMES as they say in the yeshivas.. but rather just trying to score points

Rabbi Gross may or may not have a valid point but he is doing it the wrong way. He is publicly trying to turn frum jew against frum jew which is a terrible idea. There are far better ways to get his point across.

It is interesting to note that Rabbi Gross contrasts the religious zionists vs. the “orthodox” rather than just vs. the “ultra-orthodox.” Is Rabbi Gross conceding that religious zionism is not “orthodox” and therefore outside the boundries of Torah and halacha?

Two months have passed an neither Rabbi Druckman nor any RZ rabbi has sought to set the record straight as to what they think Rabbi Druckman did or didn’t do or what they think the halacha is. I suspect that there is a good reason no one is stepping up to the plate.

We should also bear in mind that this ruling didn’t come out of left field. Rabbi Druckman and the conversion authority were challenged from day one and adamantly refused to respond or address any of the concerns that were raised for many years.

It is about time someone stood for what they stand for. Why should we in the Modern Orthodox and Dati Leumi communities contuinue to support organizatations which are not in line with our hashkafos.

the parasites have been trying to undermine the rabbanut for a long time. this latest ploy is so shameless with no regard and no kavod ha briyos for the all of the many gerim and their families and children affected by this.

its all about politics and nothing else. halacha doesnt matter to these people on on destorying the sound halachic authority of the rabbanut.

    shameful. very shameful.

The people who have converted and their families will now endure humiliating shame. Is this the Torah way? Was not the Beis HaMikdash destroyed due to ridiculously strict adherence to the letter of the law without allowing for the Jewish compassion and rachmanus that we are known for?!?!

By the way, does anyone know if this Drukman is related to Yitzchak Drookman (or Drukman) from Toronto? He’s a Lubavitcher…. just wondering…

when reform and conservative converts are told they aren’t jewish they are shamed. when we tell them their children aren’t jewish also, we shame them. does that mean we should accept these people as jews even they aren’t? no! frum people need to stand up for what is halacha and what is right even if it means hurting some people’s feelings in the meantime. these modern orthodox/religious zionist rabbis were ger factories and something needed to be done about it. many (if not) most of the conversions they performed were for the purpose of married, which any respectable frum rabbi would not allow. i think it is about time the haredim stepped in and say this is not acceptable and has got to be stopped. a ger must be committed to keep all the mitzvos and must truly and honestly believe, with no ulterior motive such as marriage or citizenship or any other reason. Drukman and everyone else involved compromised these values.

    Good:

    Let them boycott:

    1) Ichud Hatzoloh when they need an ambulance.

    2) Zaka

    3) Yad Sarah and Ezer MiTziyon when they need medical help.

    4) Meir Panim when they are down and out.

    5) Chabad (semi-haredi but very against giyur factories) when their datlash kids go off the derech and get into trouble in Asia.

    etc, etc, etc.

RZ is discredited and its best are Chardal which is practically haredi. The real RZ are disgusted with the medine and sing Hashem Hu Malkeinu. These guys are fringe throwbacks.

Is it possible they are wrong on the halacha? Take a look a t the teshuvos about what is required in acceptance of Mitzvot>. Read Reb Chaim Ozers teshuvas on the matter.

As a religious Jew I am sickened by the tactics of some chareidi elements. When they put up the Brooklyn eiruv they would call the wives of the rabbanim who put it up and tell them that their husbands were killed and leave dead rats by their doors. Here too they have destroyed reputations of great people for what? Is this halacha?

Who the heck are you? This is not about halacha, this is about one thing, POLITICS> this is about the holier than thou morons undemrining the rabbanut which is ten times more halachic than any of the moetzes dingalings you worship in flatbush.

I know Hagai Gross. He’s a talmid of Rav Druckman- and a neighbor.

Clearly, he’s taking the insult against Rav Drukman personally.

It’s interesting how these same people who insult the dati leumi rabbonim don’t hesitate to knock on the dati leumi doors schnorring.
