An Israeli military spokeswoman had no information on the report but was checking for details.

Haniyeh’s son confirmed the strike on his Facebook page and added that the house of the former Hamas Gaza prime minister was empty.

Hamas said that its TV station Al-Aqsa TV was also targeted but the station continued to broadcast.

Israel launched its Gaza offensive on July 8, saying its aim was to halt rocket attacks by Hamas and its allies. It later ordered a land invasion to find and destroy the warren of Hamas tunnels that crisscrosses the border area.

As night fell over Gaza, army flares illuminated the sky and the sound of intense shelling could be heard. The military warned thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes in areas around Gaza City – usually the prelude to major army strikes.

A number of rockets fired from Gaza were launched toward various regions in southern and central Israel, including the Tel Aviv area. At least one of the rockets was intercepted by the Iron Dome system. No casualties or damage were reported.

Some 1,085 Gazans, most of them civilians, have died in the 22-day-old conflagration. Israel has lost 48 soldiers and another three civilians have been killed by Palestinian shelling.

Why is Israel risking and losing holy Jewish life in destroying the tunnels. A simpler solution would be once the tunnels are discovered, all of Israels sewage system should be diverted into all of the tunnels via pipe which can be installed in no time. The tremendous pressure of the sewage water containing excrement, feces, waste etc will flow freely through all the tunnels thus becoming a natural sewer system flowing in to Gaza city.
This would then be an incentive for Hamas to use the the billions of dollars of aid they receive to construct a sewage treatment plant (using Israeli technology).
They will then have their own water supply and will add hundreds of jobs for Gazans who feel like working at the plant and thus save save Israel the expense of supplying water to Gaza. No terrorist would be able to swim against the powerful tide of millions of gallons of sewage especially if piglet corpses are added to the sewage as an added deterrent! If the Hamas should decide they don’t need a sewage treatment plant then they can have all of Israels sewage flow in to their open sewer systems which still flow freely across Gaza since they were squandering all the aid money to build terrorist tunnels using the cement they purchased from Israel.
