John Cahill, standing Monday outside the attorney general’s office in Albany, says the deputies were obligated to report to the attorney general. He says Schneiderman hasn’t said anything about the alleged interference or what he knew about it.

Cahill says New Yorkers deserve to know.

The governor’s office has denied any wrongdoing, saying it “counseled” commissioners that Gov. Andrew Cuomo appointed about what subpoenas to issue but didn’t dictate or improperly interfere.

A campaign spokesman says Schneiderman has prosecuted 40 politicians, government employees and nonprofit officials, cracking down more on public corruption than predecessors.
