Jerusalem – Israel’s Supreme Court: Pride Parade Can Go On

Jerusalem – Israel’s Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition to ban this year’s Jerusalem pride parade, an annual event that has been the focus of violent controversy in the Holy City in the past.

The petition, submitted by a group of hardline Jewish activists, called the parade scheduled for Thursday a “provocation.”

Jerusalem municipality had also objected to the event, with city spokesman Gidi Schmerling warning that it “harms social relations.”

But the court said in its ruling that the organizers of the event declared that they did not intend the parade to be provocative.

In 2005 an ultra-orthodox Jew stabbed three participants and was subsequently sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The following year the venue was switched to a sports stadium following violent protests by ultra-orthodox Jews and rightwing opponents who consider the event “a profanity” of the Holy City.

Last year about 2,500 gays and activists marched down King David Street despite protests by thousands of people.

Jerusalem Open House, the gay rights group organizing the event, said the parade would put Jerusalem and Israel “to the true test of democracy and civil rights.”

“Though we expect the struggle to be tough, we will not let the threats of violence silence us or challenge Israeli democracy,” the group said in a statement.

It is time for Lupliansky to step down. He has failed to halt chilul shabbos, he has failed to prevent shop keepers from selling chumetz during pesach and now he failed again to stop this parade. what do we have from a frum mayor? is anything better for the frum people now than in prior years? URI YOU FAILED!

dreidel, you show true ignorance. he cannot stop the parade because the supreme ct. already ruled in previous years that the city government could not stop it. He has done a nice job and if you haven’t seen the difference between what he’s done and previous mayors then it shows you don’t know what’s going on in Yerushalaim.

stopping chometz was against the law untill the stupid judge allowed it. pay attention!!!

You failed YOU ARE THE LOSER.

Why dont you run for office and see if you have a chance to stop these parades. And once your at it why dont you stop cheelonim from being mechallel shabbos and once your at why dont you burn down all the stores that sell in appropriate clothing. Fill up bleach bottles and go down geula and spray everyone whom YOU deem as in appropriate.

You are a a disgrace to humanity and to yiddishkiet. Shame on you.

How would you like if the cheelonim came into your place and ripped off your tztzis because they felt you ae dressing in appropriately. What would you do? You would probably lynch him. LIVE AND LET LIVE. If you dont like what you see in the streets then stay home and sweat it out. Its a free country my friend whether u like it or not.

Nu…Nu….what can a yiddle do? All we can d ois say tsk..tsk… say some tehelim and let the parade go on. That is because us yiddlech have no back bones. It takes muslims to show us what they can do when you insult their prophet.

So let’s go back to our gemara’s and the parade will pass.

who cares , let them do whatever they need to do. the more people fight it the mosre they become loud. eventually there wont be a need for them to have a parade in the first place if everyone just shuts up. we have much bigger problems in klal yisroel

No you are all wrong! We have to stick up for the kovad Ha Torah and the way to do that is in NUMBERS! We have to be in solidarity and NOT ALLOW THIS…Its not enough that they are gay however they have the nerve to go and flaunt it, parade around as if there is nothing wrong and especially in the heilge Yerushalium! We have koach, when we get everyone together and PARADE against this….

Never before have we heard anything like this. How could such a thing be happening?

“The Beis HaMikdosh below was not destroyed until the Beis HaMikdosh above was destroyed.”

And so too, Yerusholayim below is not defiled until Yerusholayim above is defiled.

When there was more Kedusha in Yerusholayim something like this simply could not happen, because the Kedusha of the City could not be sovel it.

The fact that something like this could happen is a siman that there is little koyach left in Yerusholayim’s Kedusha…

Rabbosai, we must intensify Yerusholayim’s Kedusha through Torah, Avoda and Gemilus Chasodim WITH MESIRUS NEFESH. That’s the key. Mesirus Nefesh.

That’s the difference between the Jews of previous generations and the Jews today. Mesirus Nefesh…

There are many arabs working in Jerusalam. Wonder if their clergy told them to stay away.

The moslems would not sit still would this be happening too close to them, so why do we have to sit silently and defile the holy jerusalem?

Many towns in the democratic USA have successfuly fought, and won against having such filth in their towns.

A parade shows that ‘they’ are not happy with just “live and let live.” They do not have to parade around.

In NYC there was a lot of protesting against the XXX parade, In the end they could not to it where they originally had planned it.

I say… Let these idiots parade on a side street, prefferably close to the moslem area.

When all frum Jews move to Israel and have kids, we will be a majority, and this won’t happen any more.

Or you can remain in Monsey and Brooklyn, Miami, LA, and Chicago, and keep complaining when it does happen.

to all people out there bashing me: don’t u think that the Chilul Hashem is much greater when all this is happening and a frum neighbor is in charge? why is it necessary to have a shomer torah umitzvus sign off on the permit for this parade. and if he does do good things for the city is it worthwile the chilul hashem? let’s leave it up the the chilunim to take care of street cleaning and sanitation collection. uri has still to prove what he has done for the betterment of the Rochnius of Yerushalaim.
