Wichita, KS – Ted Riley Floyd, who caused a stir throughout Orthodox Jewish communities in Brooklyn, N.Y., and New Jersey after living for years under an assumed name, [as reported By Vos Iz Neias], was sentenced in Wichita to a year and a day in prison for his unusual identity crime.

U.S. District Judge Monti Belot handed down the sentence today and ordered Floyd to serve three years’ probation after he gets out of prison. Belot also said Floyd cannot use any name but his own, or apply to legally change his name without the permission of his probation officer.

The defendant, who was indicted Feb. 6, 2008, under the name John Doe, later was identified as Theodore Riley Floyd. In April, he pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement on an application for a passport.

In his plea, Floyd admitted that on March 28, 2002, he submitted an application for a U.S. passport to the Corporate Hills U.S. Post Office in Wichita, Kan. On the application, he used the name and Social Security number of Nathaniel James Levi, who is a deceased veteran of the United States Navy.

Floyd received the passport and used it to help him assume Levi’s identity for fraudulent purposes.

“At the time he was arrested, Mr. Floyd was living in an Hasidic community in New Jersey and using the stolen identity,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.

“This prosecution focuses on the federal crime that occurred in Kansas and not any other matters in which Mr. Floyd may have been involved.”

The revelation of Floyd’s true identity shocked the large Lithuanian Jewish community in Lakewood, where he lived with his wife and children, who continue to remain there. According to a report by Vosizneias.com, a proper Orthodox Jewish conversion rites have been performed to allow his wife and children to remain there.

    “Lithuanian Jewish Community”?!

Are the Lithuanians a gulible people? How about the Jews? Are they gulible or only the Jews from Lithuania?

Did he act Lithuanian? Has the Lithuanian Government been notified that a whole portion of their population resides now in Lakewood, NJ?

Amazing – a goy puts on a white shirt, a black velvet yarmulka a black suit and black hat – and he is accepted into Brooklyn and Lakewood Frum communities. And he even gets a Shidduch and he and his kids gets get into yeshiva etc.

Somehow other orthodox jews who don’t do all the above chitzoni things can’t get the slightest respect no shidduch no yeshiva no respect in shul. What a shame on these communities!!!!

7:11 you are absolutely right. It goes to show you that some people are for the culture and are FAKE. And real jews dont have to put on a dress up show to prove their jewishness.

since when does being a thief disqualify someone from being a “frum” Jew? Crimianl attornies are blessed with a very good parnasa representing so called “frum” Jews.

He passed himself off as a Sephardi (descended from Morranos, he claimed).

I davened with this guy in shul, and to be fair, I didn’t know him so well personally. But my friends who did said he was a total nutcase. I mean, a real weirdo.

And the Beis Din here in town was (and still is) also fooled by his wife. She claims she was “duped” herself. They fell for her tale hook, line and sinker. She knew Teddy good and well before his “conversion”.

    Anon 12:18 am –

The Lakewood Bais Din did not fall for anything, period.

The Bais Din which consisted of Chashuve Rabbonim which are respected by everyone in town convened a session to deliberate the subject for several hours before they rendered their decision. This was done after spending hundreds of collective hours thouroughly combing through the details of this case and considering any potential allegations.

These are the accepted Talmidei Chachomim and Poskim that All bnei torah turn to with their shaalos in all areas of the Shulchan Aruch.

You have some Chutzpah to insinuate that their Psak is incorrect. In fact, all of us and YOU TOO have an obligation of “VeAhavtem Es Hager”. This is an open passuk in the Torah.

How you can sleep at night while going against an explicit “Psak Bais Din” while being “moitzi shem ra” in public and discouraging others from fulfilling a mitzvah min hatorah, is beyond me!!??

If you really feel the way pathetic way that YOU do, why don’t you call the Bais Ho’raah of Lakewood and explain to them why YOU KNOW BETTER THAN DAAS TORAH!

    TO 7:56 P.M.

You have a point however after six years they got it. By you (from your disgusting comment I assume you’re one of those Chasiddishe idiots-probably one of them that hang out in the clubs….)they wouldn’t be able to tell a difference after any period of time. Just walk past the internet cafes in Manhattan.Who do you see there?? “Chassidim”??? or Litvaks? I should really straighten this whole thing out.The messed up”Chassidim” have nothing in common with Chassidus which I would never C’vshalom dare say a word against. True Chassidim include great great people but not the likes of you. You’re just another one of those guys that wear the shtreimel cause Babby might get upset but your beard is almost invisble. Get a life and grow up!!

    To Anon: 1:52 you write:

“Just walk past the internet cafes in Manhattan.Who do you see there?? “Chassidim”??? or Litvaks?”

The reason u don’t see “Litvaks” in the cafes, is because they have the internet in their own houses, violating their own “Gedolims” psak!

Shame! To all of you! Writing with such Richus about Yiden. If Beth Din considerd him as Yid, all those bad tonghes are playing with fire.

    Rabbi Lebovic –

The Beth Din did NOT express a decision declaring HIM as Jewish. On the contrary, they DID express that until proven otherwise he is presumed to be NOT Jewish. (As clarification, I am not condoning the distateful rhetoric displayed by some of the commentors)

However, you are still correct concerning the wife & children since the Beth Din did hand down a ruling that they underwent a legitimate “Maaseh Geirus” in Lakewood and hence they full members of the community.

As always, there are pitiful “leitzanim” and “kalei daas” (see anon 12:18) that choose to lead their lives by belittling the words of the Rabbonim. I don’t envy their portion in the world to come…

    ANON 1:52

the reason you don’t see litvaks there is because at that point they don’t look like litvaks-they look like any other american. whereas chassidim you can always tell that they are chassidim.
