FILEAntwerp – A Belgian doctor manning a 24 hr. medical hotline twice refused to treat a 90 year-old Jewish woman suffering from a broken rib Wednesday night, telling her instead to “go to Gaza.”

JOODSACTUEEL.be (http://bit.ly/1u3jW2H) reports that the doctor later confirmed his denial, telling a family friend and Antwerp councilman that he made the comments in an “emotion frenzy” over the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

After hours in agonizing pain, Bertha Klein finally had her son, an American, call the hotline at 11 p.m. Wednesday night.

The doctor, who later confirmed that he knew immediately through the son’s American accent that he was calling on behalf of a Jewish woman, told the son “I will not come” before slamming the phone down.

Stunned, Bertha’s son called back only to be told by the doctor “send her to the Gaza Strip for a few hours, she will not feel any more pain.”

The son then called family friend, Antwerp councilman Samuel Markowitz, who in turn called the doctor, recording his conversation in process.

The doctor told Markowitz he made the comments in an “emotional frenzy.”

Markowitz, along with Kelin’s son, have filed racism and xenophobia reports with the Health Department and local police.

Klein’s son said his mother was in tears following the incident, saying, “This reminds me of what we went through in Europe 70 years ago. I never thought that day would be repeated.”

I wonder what would happen if the MDA or UH said something like that ….. i wonder what would happen if the hospitals in Israel would say that to 1000s of gazens they treat on a daily basis

Eight years ago when my wife gave birth at a Manhattan hospital the doctor who was treating her at night came in and from speaking a few words mentioned something about her being Jewish and made a slick comment so she noticed from his accent that he was an Arab so she said to him you sound like you’re an area he did not like that which in return he said and made what his hands in a gun shape that over here we are talking if we were over there we would be killing each other coming from a doctor I thought that was a little strange which my wife told him to get lost and asked for a different doctor

That doctor should be dismissed for practicing racism against the Jews. He needs to feel the pain. Maybe he should visit Gaza and treat the people there instead of crying crocidile tears for the poor palestinians while he luxuriates in his fine Beguim lifestyle.

Better that he said that than he “treat” her. I could only imagine the “treatment.”

I hope HE is prepared to take the Gazan wounded because that is exactly what the Israeli doctors should say “I am sorry I can’t help you, you will now have to go to Belgium since they refuse to treat Jews, we can no longer treat non-jews, but don’t worry Belgium doctors will be happy to treat you if you can get there before you die.

#14 - I couldn’t agree with you more. Unfortunately, there are many commentators on VIN, who either don’t know how to, or could care less about writing grammatically correct sentences. I’ve noticed numerous run on sentences, missing commas, and typographical errors. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a correlation with one’s educational background, and their level of writing correctly. I’ve seen Physicians and PhD’s, who couldn’t write a grammatically correct paragraph, to save their lives!
