Washington - The United States sees Israel’s announcement on Sunday of a land appropriation for possible settlement construction in the occupied West Bank as “counterproductive” to peace efforts and urges the Israeli government to reverse the decision, a State Department official said.

Israel laid claim to nearly a thousand acres (400 hectares) in the Etzion settlement bloc near Bethlehem, a move which an anti-settlement group termed the biggest appropriation in 30 years and a Palestinian official said would cause only more friction after the Gaza war.

“We have long made clear our opposition to continued settlement activity,” the U.S. official said. “ This announcement, like every other settlement announcement Israel makes, planning step they approve and construction tender they issue is counterproductive to Israel’s stated goal of a negotiated two-state solution with the Palestinians.”

“We urge the government of Israel to reverse this decision,” the official said in Washington.

"Jerusalem urges United States to reverse land grab in west from Mexico" would be a more appropriate headline.

Here goes Obama again. Stop Israel from building on its own land. It wants Israel to give away from its own property to appease the bloodthirsty savages who have Obama's sympathy. There are no true Palestinians, and the "Nation of Palestine" is a concoction that Arafat and his thug friends fabricated. They succeeded in making this a "cause" by indoctrinating it into so many (otherwise) innocent children. Obama: Stop bossing Israel around. It only displays your hate for them. Had you been a competent leader for America, one might think there was something to consider as an approach to solve a world problem. Inasmuch as you have not shown us any form of competence, we only see this is your tacit support of terror. And we wish you to fade into history, while your administration is succeeded by those who can figure out a way to undo the terrible damage you have inflicted on America and its foreign policy.

Nothing new here.

Obama is just continuing the policy of Reagan Bush, Clinto and Bush.

Don't like worrying about the opinion of the USA? Stop accepting their money. That'll really show Obama who is in charge!

Every American administration including Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush opposed Israeli land grabs and settlement construction. This is not Obama's issue. The Israeli government is picking a fight for no good reason. Let them build in the Galilee. Why must they cause fights and resentment with the rest of the world.

The British are even bigger low-lives. They created this mess and left us defensible to be slaughtered. As a result, they are now a third rate power and are facing destruction within their own country. Getting what they deserve!

America has more merit for being a relatively safe haven for Jews (for not much longer), but have suffered and will suffer far greater for the evils they've done to us too.

None of the mentioned presidents based their policy and allegiance with Israel on settlements. None of them. It is only Obama that takes the settlement issue to the tippy top. All of the above presidents sided with Israel in its conflicts with those wishing its elimination. Not Obama. Your justifying the first (hopefully only) terrorist president by claiming that predecessors did the same is just your liberal excrement. We readers on the site are quite sick of it. You wish to support this enemy of America, democracy, Israel, and the free world, go do it on the sites that are more sympathetic to your views, like Hamas, Qatar, ISIS, etc. Not here.

Please read Yehuda Avner's book "The Prime Ministers". As speech writer for, I believe, four Israeli Prime Ministers, he sat in on talks with the U,S. presidents of that era. From his writing, it appears that none of the U.S. presidents loved us.

You need to turn off Fox "News" and WABC radio and start thinking for yourself once in awhile.

The Arabs are enraged at Obama's treatment of Israel and most Israelis agree with the established US policy on settlements. I guess in your world view they are terrorists too.

Why don't you put yourself and your kids into IDF uniforms before you decide that anyone who disagrees with Bibi and the right wing of Israeli politics is anti Israel?

Or are you more comfortable urging other people to send their kids to fight for every inch of EY will be ours bekarov beyamainu anyway, while you relax in here in the States?

Despite many years in EY, I never met in Yerusholayim or Tel Aviv more extreme believers in Zionism than I meet in Monsey, in Brooklyn, in the Five Towns, in Teaneck, in LA.......

Same policy as Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush, but don't let facts influence your opinion.

Rush wouldn't approve.

The Arab press has been full of comolaints that Obama keeps taking Israel's side. They hate him for blocking Palestinian statehood at the U. They hate him for refusing to deal with Hamas.

The Arabs are still upset at him for coming to Cairo to restart US - Muslim/Arab relations and starting off the new relationship by telling them that the improved relationship will not come at the expense of the relationship between the US and Israel. They never forgave him for that and do not trust him.
