The New York Post reported Tuesday that Pataki is privately weighing whether to enter the wide-open Republican field. The paper says Pataki recently met with Republican donor David Koch (kohk).

Pataki was governor from 1995 to 2006 and was mentioned as a potential presidential contender in the 2008 and 2012 elections.

David Catalfamo, a former top Pataki adviser, says it’s premature to talk about his former boss running for president. He says Pataki and Koch are friends and often meet.

State Republican Chairman Ed Cox dismissed questions about Pataki’s future Tuesday, saying he’s focused on this year’s elections.

Messages left for Pataki were not returned Tuesday.

He was a mediocre Governor, way out of his league in the State House and now he has his eye on the White House. I may as well throw my yamalka into the ring.

I wouldn’t laugh so loud. This guy never had a chance for any office, and yet he never lost an election.

    Pataki was a decent Governor.

    However, the issue is:

    1) Will he be effective at debating Hillary (and sway/convince national voters).

    2) Will he be able to carry New York/New Jersey in a race against Hillary.

In reality, Pataki has been out of politics for a while. Has not been on the National scene, albeit after 9/11. He along with Romney -if he runs, will be too gentlemanly and not debate Hillary in a forceful manner.

More to the point. Christie, Romney and Pataki should realize that winning New York against Hillary is an uphill battle. It certainly doesn’t bode well for Governors who cannot carry their own states; New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts -respectively, to seek to carry a majority of states.
