But they initially stumbled on, how, exactly to deliver that message to their citizens.
The two Democrats, who have a complicated relationship, were both in New York but instead of holding a joint press conference, each held their own storm briefing five miles apart.
The news conferences were briefly scheduled to start within 15 minutes of each other, making it impossible for them both to be broadcast live on TV to New Yorkers anxious about the storm.
Cuomo later moved his briefing, avoiding a conflict.
Both men suggested the scheduling snafu was simply a quirk of logistics and touted their joint response to the storm.
