The group also met with Jewish representatives of CRIF, the Jewish umbrella group. Four people at a Jewish grocery were among the attackers’ 17 victims, while 12 others died in the newsroom massacre at Charlie Hebdo.

Leeds imam Qari Mohammed Asim said sharing experiences is critical in difficult times. Speaking during the visit Monday to the Great Mosque of Paris, he noted that extremists who killed over 50 people in the 2005 London bombings were from Leeds.

Asim told mosque rector Dalil Boubakeur “we’ve seen how difficult it is in those challenging times to keep communities together.” Boubakeur denounced extremists as Muslims’ “common enemy.”

There are many good and honest Muslims. But many are afraid to speak out against the terrorists because they live among them and they are afraid of retribution.

It’s as important to laud positive deeds as it is to condemn despicable ones. I give these Imams credit for making the gesture. I hope such overtures are imitated by an ever growing number of their compatriots.

Islam doesn’t really provide for tolerance. They have a 1400 year culture of dominance. Their whole world is divided into 2 sections: Dar el Salaam (the areas they have already conquered and brought Islamic ‘peace’ to) and Dar el Harb (the areas that remain to be conquered by the Cherev). Combine this with their strong culture of loyalty, and how is anyone to speak out?
