The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Monday in Park Slope. Authorities say none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

FDNY Battalion Chief Steve Corcoran, who witnessed the blast, tells the Daily News (http://nydn.us/1D6NwLg ) that the manhole cover went about 50 feet into the air and hit a man in the head.

The other patient was a 93-year-old woman hit by glass when her window shattered.

The man’s dog ran away but was found about an hour later. An animal rescuer said the dog was shaking and her paws were bleeding.

Utility officials say road salt, melting snow and ice can cause problems when they seep into the underground system.
