Noord-Holland – A Dutch court has ruled in favor of extraditing Rabbi Eliezer Berland to Israel to face Israeli law for his alleged sex crimes against young women.

NL Times (http://bit.ly/17nrMyR) reports the Haarlem court ruled that the 77-year-old can be extradited under the extradition criteria set out by the European Convention on Extradition as well as Dutch extradition law. Dutch justice and security minister Ivo Opstellen now has to decide if Berland will actually be taken to Israel.
According to Dutch publication NOS (http://bit.ly/1CjjvWI), Justice Opstelten has the ability to halt extradition on humanitarian grounds.
Berland was arrested in the Netherlands in Sept. 2014 at the Schiphol airport after running for two years from Israeli officials. He is accused of abusing young women in the Shuvu Banim Hassidic sect he founded. He fled Israel to avoid questioning.
He has denied all allegations of sexual abuse.
