Williamsburg, NY – When you sit down to write a memo of how great the volunteer organization’s in the Jewish community at large, your hopes and prayers are, that its only a minor case and no one got hurt, Shomrim was there. A minor accident or a cut and Hatzolah was there,
you have to get to the hospital and Chesed was there, you have a flat and Chevirim was there etc.;

but not in a million years do you prepare all volunteers or the entire community to respond to the very tragic accident that happened this morning in Williamsburg when two children leave the house and kissed their mother good bye, only for one of them never to come back home because the Housing Authority which manages the Taylor Wyhte Project as well as two other projects in the area, has not responded in a professional way to the hundreds of complaints that the elevators that were built in the late 1950s and has constantly failed to operate properly, and we call this negligent, it got stuck between 2 floors and one of the children trying to get out, falls into the elevator pit never to come home again to his parents or siblings.
Had any private owner of a multi dwelling run buildings the way NYCHA does, the city would have shut them down.
I know that many of you that are reading this, “Oh here he goes again complaining” try talking to all residents that live in the NYCHA buildings and let them tell you the nightmares that they had with the elevators for years, how many times my father (till 120) wheelchair bound had to call volunteers to take him up the stairs 4 flights because the elevators did not work, this tragedy was an accident waiting to happen because there is no one to talk too in the city, not about maintenance not about crime and not about the undesirable’s that have been coming in lately into the Williamsburg Projects.
many years ago I had the great pleasure of working with all tenants associations from all projects as a united voice, Bedford Gardens, Clemente Plaza, Taylor Wyhte, Independence Plaza and Jonathan Williams, it worked great because all together its over 3,000 families, but the sitra achrah got involved and that was the end.
not only the Neiman family lost a child, its the entire community lost one of our precious little children and it could have chas V’shulem happened to any of us, this child was going to where most of us are coming from “Yeshiva, Chieder” where shliach mitzvah eina nizukin, but the Al Mighty has his way’s and we thank him for not having 2 tragedies.
So why am I writing this, because I want to express my heart full thanks to all volunteers, in your schis alone of gemilas chasudim, mushiach should come already, BUT, please if there is a problem any problem any where, flood 311 with calls, don’t think that your neighbor will do it, one life to lose, is one too many.
There should be a full investigation on all the elevator maintenance that was done or not done, and it should be done by none other then the Department of Investigation, not NYCHA.
As for those who have Jnet, please have one site where we can log all complaints and if need be please have one site give out phone #s of all important agencies to know who to call.
Sherie Rachmin, Pesach-and lets all have A git G’bensht Yur.
the city officials knows that this community is in a viges fight if one side is critisizeing the other will difend this is the bitter resoults of machloika its never too late to reunite and dont be ashemed to do so (sorry 4 poor spelling)
ISSAC, great job! now we see you are a true community leader and ready to be a counsilman!
why use this tragic event to promote the political message of a running candidate . he right away ran to to the location to give a comment to the press on this tragic event .
Also if a Traffic Light or street light is not working call 311 Immediately
Isaac, Where have you been all those years when the elevator was broken. you live over there and you goofed on this one. dont get all excited now.
I really should not respond to comments that are totally off the wall, as for 1 of the comments, please be advised I never put this memo on as a candidate and the editor will vouch for it.
2nd, “you live there and where have you been” NO, I don’t live there and there is a tenants association that didn’t work with us all these years and you should really ask them that question where have they been. where I live, I call, write letters and e-mail on every issue even elevators.
just last year when the elevator union threatened to go on strike, Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum and myself sent a letter to the union letting them know that if there will be a problem, we will bring in non union elevator mechanics and they will stay here and get the contract.
so, please when u sit down and write your comments pro or con, get your facts straight and sign your name the way I did. I don’t try to score points on some ones blood.
give u an example, after the fire in Bedford Gardens when we lost 3 children RCMLZLN, I complained that FD took longer to respond because they have no idea where they were going because every building 70,74,80,84,90,94,100,104 all are Ross St. and they respond to Ross St. even if the building is next to highway.
the next thing you know, there was meetings and photo’s with “leaders” who attacked me and convinced every one that there will be a new organization, well, well, well, last month I went up to metrotech the FD dispatching just to check how they improved the system, and guess what-they are still responding to ROSS ST. on all buildings.
I love being criticized by an expert who has all necessary information to prove me wrong, but at the same time the readers must laugh their heads off when people shoot blanks with out a name.
Hatzlucah. just as an education.
Isaac
After the fact, everyone has all the great eitza’s! After someone robs your house, then you put in an alarm. After your car breaks down on the highway, then you do a tune up. After you slip on the snow on your steps, then you shovel the snow. Etc……………… Eyzehu hachochom – Me Sheroye es hanolad!
One thing I must say -although its not on point.
Rebbi Moishe D. Niderman, who I believe is a good person, came to the Levaya. He was serious. He was listening. Okay.
But I think it was a shame that he felt neccessary to bring with him a group of politicians, (Jewish and Non-Jewish with Kipas) with him.
I dont know his calculations. Maybe this might help with a case against the Housing guys -stll it was very insensitive.
And yes, I was happy that the wonderful Reb Isaac Abraham wasnt there. It wouldve been a good photo-op – but this is not a wedding.
It bothered me very much.
in response to you saying you dont live there>>>you missed one word i said “over there” and what i meant was close by and i think much closer than ross street that you advocated to have the fire dept. change their response time. my point was its always easier to scream after the tragedy and i belive an ounce of prevention is worth more then a pound of cure.
i understand you are running for office and i have no problem with that i just want to make sure you are screaming about the issues before hand and not after the fact… this has been going on for a long time and you know about it since you have been involved with the housing. if you can take the heat get out of the kitchen!!
In his credit Mr Abraham is the ONLY guy in Willy who took on the housing with a rent strike and other stuff.
I do not live with you in Williamsburgh, but Issac was there to guide me and help me with my problem. So, yes he is running for office, but he does things that are great for all, even outside of media attention and hidden from public eyes.
This message is to WHERE SAYS!!!!!! It really doesn’t make a difference Ross St. Clymer ST, or Boro park, when blood is shed just appreciate that someone is trying to help situations and stop criticizing Mr. Isaac Abraham, you are sitting and relaxing and doing nothing about all these problems. Don’t take his hard work for granted.

Isaac Abraham has my support. He will definitely accomplish more for our community than most politicians I know. He’s passionate about helping a fellow Yid.
Kudos to Isaac he was always there when needed, and for those who know him, know it well that in all those years of his Askonus he never got kavod or recognition for his hard work just the opposite (because those so called askonim always felt threatened by him for accomplishing more than them), and yet that did not stop him from being an true OSEK BETZOCHAI TZIBUR B’EMUNO.
The all i will say is Isaac keep up the good work V’SOF HAKAVOD LAVO, and for those that cant take the heat get out of the kitchen.
Isaac has my support!! Finally we can get one of our own pple in city hall to represent us, and here we go again with some jellies not forgining him.
To all of those who do not support him: do you rather want a shvortza to represent you???? I dont know who UJO will endorse by the elections, but one thing is for sure if they will not endorse him they will show their true colors…they are her for $$, and not to help the community..going to a levaya with goysha mochers doesn’t mean you represent williamburg.
When there is a rent increase in Bedford Gardens you can only talk to Isaac, since the other guy and all his kids live there for free
Go Isaac, Hatzlucha Rabba!!
The only way to correct is if the person incharge in housing will be arrested as the city would do if it would be a private ownwership
I think it’s nice to see Mr. Abraham saying nice things about the volunteer organizations in the Jewish community. Especially Hatzolah.
Long time no speak Isaac. Thanks for the kind words.
I hope that whoever gets appointed wherever should be good to all Jews. be’ezras Hashem
Isaac Abraham is a person who is totally She’Oskim B’Tzurchei Tzibur Be’Emumah. He doesn’t do it for Kovod, Money or Power, but just because he has it in his heart to help others.
We should all applaud him and may hashem bless him with all the best!!
This is a self serving PR piece. All it had to say was “call 311”. But you had to list all of your contacts, all of the groups and thank everyone first. Than at the end its call 311.
So did you follow up with Betty Gotbaum about the elevators? All the times your father got stuck did you send a formal complaint in to Housing?
You used a tragedy to list your history.
