The TSA uses passenger screening canines to identify and locate potential explosive threats at security checkpoints. Authorities at the airport in Romulus recently received four specially trained dogs. The TSA held a demonstration for media Thursday.
Officials say the dogs are different from other explosive sniffing dogs that have been used at the airport and elsewhere in the past.
Also this week, the Transportation Security Administration opened another application site for an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and have permitted liquids in a carry-on.
