Broward County, FL – County Commissioner: U.S. Rep. Wexler “An Embarrassment to Jews”

Broward County, FL – Former state representative and Broward county commissioner Ben Graber is blasting U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Boca Raton, as an “embarrassment to Jews.”

Graber , son of Holocaust survivors, is challenging Wexler in congressional District 19, and is running as an independent candidate.

He took issue with Wexler for dissing Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential pick, Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska. According to Graber: “Wexler immediately condemned her as a supporter of a Nazi sympathizer because she wore a Pat Buchanan button … when he visited her town.”

Graber said Wexler’s “behavior” is “not only embarrassing to the Jews, but also dangerous. It is apparent Wexler’s decision-making process is flawed. His inappropriate political use of Jewish issues could promote anti-Semitic backlashes against American Jews. Wexler falsely claims to speak for the Jewish community and he has a history of using anti-Semitism in elections. It was used successfully when he ran for the Florida Senate against Don Childers. Now he wants to use it to frighten Jews into believing Sarah Palin is a threat.”

Here’s how McCain’s campaign summarized the fracas:

Wexler, badly mangling his facts, accused Governor Palin of supporting Pat Buchanan in the 2000 Alaska primary. Based on this he asserted that Governor Palin had “aligned herself with a leading anti-Israel voice in American politics,” while finding space to invoke the name of Adolph Hitler and the phrase “Nazi sympathizer.” Only it wasn’t true–Palin was an official on the Forbes campaign in 2000. Wexler never apologized or retracted his statement.

The Democrats are panicking. They see the McCain/Palin team as an unstoppable combination which will draw the entire nation together and away from their insanity, and they are getting desperate.

Good. They are giving themselves more and more rope.

No, Democrats are laughing as they see all the shmutz from this woman’s past coming out and realize people will know she’s as corrupt and deceitful as McCain, Bush and all their other cronies.

What shmutz? There is none. You can see how desperate the Democrats are to pin something, anything on her. And they come up with nothing. They spread the most bizarre rumours, with no foundation, real blood libel material — they should never be forgiven for this orgy of smears that they’ve been spreading for the past few days.

Bristol Palin will IYH marry her boyfriend, and the child will be born with two parents and have a normal upbringing. That’s true family values.

Milhouse – Family values? I always thought that one gets married before a pregnancy, not shortly before the birth of a child. I guess my family values are different.

Politics aside I agree 100% with Ben Graber… Even if you are a supporter of Obama/Biden how can you draw the comparison of Palin with Nazis? This misuse of the antisemitic reference is VERY DANGEROUS because it belittles true antisemitism. It is like the old tale of the boy who cries wolf.

Buchanan claims that Palin *was* a supporter.

And I would *never* wear a Buchanan button. That Palin considered his beliefs within the pale of respectability is troubling.

This is the same Wexler who represents Florida, but doesn’t own a home there. He uses a relative’s home in a 55 and over development. Wouldn’t be that big of a deal, except Wexler has school age children. If he were a republican, there would be 24/7 coverage of that.

The Buchanan story is bogus. The left is very scared because no female in their party can hold

    a candle to Sarah Palin.

Keep smearing this woman, and McCain will win in a landslide.

It’s amazing that we’ve had so much scrutiny of Sarah Palin in 4 days, yet the media is silent or gives free passes on the 19 months of Obama’s questionable associations Wright, Bill Ayers, Farakhan, Reszko, etc.

In an information age too often given to deliberate disinformation by special interests, we Jews need to keep ourselves informed on all fronts while not giving into manipulation from any quarter politically or otherwise.

We cannot, must not lose our compass of truth!

i think gov palin reflects the torah view on many issues affecting the jewish community

ihate to say it but she’s most probobly alot closer to our community views on the issues then the liberal “jewish democratic congressman WEXLER who critisized her for supporting pat bucanon which she actually never did in the first place this is what you would call “panic politics”

get a certain segment of voters in this case jews to turn away by spreading FALSE RUMORS about the candidate you dont want them to vote for

case in point a little closer to home(maybe too close as its in VIN)

the ads running currently on VIN NEWS for simcha felder are also panic politics “WARNING TO ALL YESHIVAS AND ORGANIZATIONS IF YOU DONT VOTE FELDER YOULL LOSE ALL YOUR FUNDING” true not true was this verified no one even bothers to check it out the OLAM GOLAM beleives everything as in a panic and everyone follows im not saying not to vote for mr felder all im saying is that in politics many resort to panic/histerical/rumor politics

Doesn’t not sound like a great move on Wexler’s part. However, the NY Times reported that as Mayor of Wassilla Palin wanted to ban books at the local library. This is what this woman is about – a false patriot, and this is what Wexler and others should be talking about. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/03/us/politics/03wasilla.html

Yankl, there’s lechatchila and bedieved. And yes, the Good Old Fashioned American Family Values are that so long as you get married before the baby is born then it’s kosher. That’s why women used to be able to sue for breach of promise – if she was engaged, and on the basis of that engagement she gave up her virginity, and then the man broke it off and left her a “ruined woman”, she was entitled to compensation. When breach of promise suits were abolished in the 1920s and ’30s, a new custom arose, of giving diamond engagement rings; they had the same purpose, to give the woman security in case the man broke the engagement. Because this sort of thing was accepted, in a bedieved manner.

Remember that Obama was born in the same way.

Even among yidden similar attitudes can be seen in the days of Chazal: boel arusoso beveis chomiv was considered prost, but there are many references in the mishneh and gemoro that show it was also accepted as something that happens.

Charlie Hall, if you are mayor of a town and a presidential candidate comes to visit it is your job to welcome him. And like it or not, Buchanan was a legitimate candidate and well within the pale of respectability.

As for his claim that she was a supporter, so what? He can claim whatever he likes, why do you believe him? If he were to claim that you were his supporter, should we believe that too?
