I understand a plea deal is already in the works, whereby the accused will be pleading guilty to some minor traffic infractions.

I hope “murray” is merely being ironic and sarcastic and that such a mere wrist-slap is not the case. These miscreants deserve whatever harsh punishment the system metes out to them.

Nonetheless, that having been said, this incident hopefully will act as a wake-up call to the victim — and to all other potential victims as well — not to be so careless as to leave a handbag or any other valuable item unattended on a windowsill or anywhere else where some creep can easily grab it. What if, chas v’sholom, the cops had not grabbed up these guys — and they went to her house (they had her keys and could get her address from her wallet) to wait for her and commit who knows what other kind of crimes, possibly up to and including murder?

She should definitely bentsch gomel on Shabbos.
