    The New York Times says in Friday editions that documents and a lawyer for Rangel confirm that the congressman profited from the resort, but didn’t pay taxes over several years.

    Rangel is the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, which is responsible for federal tax code.

    An attorney for the congressman says Rangel will mostly likely file amendments for the years in which he did not pay taxes on the property.

    Rangel says in a statement that he has asked his accountant to review tax data and verify the facts.

    He should pass an amendment to the Code exempting his villa from tax.

    ========================

    Analyst, the issue is not property taxes but INCOME TAXES generated from the rental of the property. As a US citizen, Rangel must report worlwide income. And as chairman of the Ways & Means Committee, he sure as heck knew that, even if you didnt.

    He is a crook. When you read the articles about the daily rental rate – it is probably a few HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS in unreported income over a few years – not just %75,000.
