Williamsburg, NY – Tenants: Elevator Still Broken after Boy’s Fatal Fall

Williamsburg, NY – A month after a 5-year-old boy died following an elevator malfunction in the building at 70 Clymer Street in Brooklyn, that elevator apparently still hasn’t been fixed.

Tenants waiting for it found nothing but an empty shaft when its doors opened Friday afternoon. Luckily, no one took a blind step.

“The miscommunication with New York City is unbelievable,” Community Activist Isaac Abraham said. “Calls have been made to 311, the Housing Authority and the NYPD and the elevator still isn’t in service!”

Jacob Neuman was on his way to school in August when he fell 10 stories to his death. The elevator he was in got stuck and he tried jumping out of the car onto the next floor but didn’t make it.

There was no immediate comment from the building’s managers.

Government should be involved in national defense and filling potholes. Real estate is best left to private industry. If we were speaking of a private landlord with non-section 8 tenants, the elevator would have been fixed in hours. This was a terrible tragedy. Let us not be like the residents of New Orleans during Katrina waiting for government to get us out of trouble.

They don’t CARE no news. should any private building owner do that he would currently be imprisoned for negligence. Arrest the heads of Housing authority, Mayor Bloomberg, Commisioner Kelly. I’m sure you’ll see progress. UNREAL

Im still crying about the little boy. I send my condolences to his parents, and hope they have the strength to continue. I hope they know there are many who feel their pain.
