Jerusalem – Tzipi Livni Kadima Win, In Dispute By Very Small Margin

Jerusalem – A Channel 2 / Dahaf poll gives Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni 48 percent of the vote to 37 percent for transport Minister Shaul Mofaz.

Public Security Minister Avi Dichter and Interior Minister Meir Sheetrit each received 7 percent in the poll.

Livni is Israel’s chief negotiator in peace talks with Palestinians. She favors diplomacy to solve Israel’s problems, although she has said she would not hesitate to pull the trigger if necessary.

    U/D 7:30 PM EST

The real vote count, however, found Livni victorious by a meagre 479 votes by 2 a.m., when thousands of votes were still to be counted. Livni’s headquarters tentatively announced she would win by two percent only, a much lower difference than the 8-10% predicted by polls.

At the headquarters of Mofaz his activists claimed that according to real results counted so far, he was trailing Livni by just little over 100 votes.

A pollster interviewed by Israel Radio admitted that Kadima members might have misled pollsters deliberately and that a dramatic turnaround in the primary was still a possibility.

Nevertheless, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called Livni to congratulate her on her victory and offer her his full support.

An Israel radio analyst assessed that the reason Mofaz had not yet called to congratulate Livni and she had not yet made her victory speech was due to the fact that final results might still surprisingly crown Mofaz. The claim of Mofaz having a slight advantage could not be verified and activists for Livni interviewed by Israel Radio avoided making any comment on the claim.

But the winner will not automatically succeed Olmert. Here is a brief look at the process:

    # If the winner gets 40 percent or more of the vote, he or she is the new party leader. If not, party holds run-off between two top vote-getters the following week.

    # Once party has a leader, Olmert formally submits resignation to ceremonial President Shimon Peres. The cabinet resigns with him.

    # After consulting with party leaders, Peres picks a member of the Knesset, most likely the Kadima leader, to form a new coalition government.

    # The prime minister designate has 42 days to form a new coalition and bring it to the Knesset for approval.

    # If no new government is formed, a general election is held within 90 days. The process of forming government begins all over again.

    # Olmert remains in office as caretaker prime minister until a new government is approved by the Knesset.

    nashim daaton kalois

By your post, it seems obvious that you are quite “daaton Kalois” yourself. This statement was made hundreds of years ago, when society socialized women to be meek and stupid. That is no longer the case and women are now socialized to be smart, agressive, and aspire to the same achievements as men. As a result, these women can no longer be considered Dataan Kalois, and, in fact, women perform as well as, or better than, men in many areas of academia and social life. They are leaders of countries, lawyers, scientists etcetera. In the frum community, we still teach our women to view themselves as meek, in need of male protection, and less than men. As a result, some of our women may act as if they are Daatan Kalois. However, this is a self-fulfilling prophesy, rather than a biological fact. By the way, even using your logic. Did not Hashem tell Avraham to listen to Sarah because women have special knowledge. Why do you assume that they can not be leaders even if you do rely on quotes from scripture to completely determine your world view?

We need Shual Mofez as Prime Minister, since he is Iranian, and understands the Iranian mentality better than anyone else. There is no doubt in my mind that war with Iran will break out within the next few weeks. The USA will welcome another war to take everyone’s mind off the battered economy which quickly heading towards a depression.

Does that not contradict your statement that things are different today? If they are, then women don’t posses special knowledge, and if the torah is eternal, than Daaton Kaalos.

    Which way is it?

It is time for Moshe Feiglin to take over the Likud, to oust that corrupt Bibi, and govern according to the clear principles of the Lkud Charter. And Moshiach now is the preferred option of all.

RE…If they are, then women don’t posses special knowledge, and if the torah is eternal, than Daaton Kaalos. …

The Torah is eternal but circumstances change , and the Torah allows for that.

Just take a look in the Shulcha Aruch ,and you’ll see how halachos and mihagim changed over the years. The mechaber himself will sometimes write a halacha and immediately write,,, AVOL BIZMAN HAZEH ,,,, we do different. Then the Ramah will even go a step farther and pasken even different..example… V’achshav…Bimdinateinu… we do so and so.

In the gemarah itself we see changes in halacha based on different life’s circumstances.
