Law enforcement officials said additional counterterrorism units were being deployed to the United Nations, the U.S. Mission in New York as well as other foreign consular offices.

One official said the measures are precautionary. Another said there are new unrelated and uncorroborated threats for Europe and inside the U.S. The official stressed the threat information is non-specific but that law enforcement agencies have been alerted as a precaution.

This as U.S. officials said they are looking into reports that an American citizen was killed in the Yemen bombing. American officials said they have heard, but cannot confirm, that a woman from Lackawanna, New York, was among those killed.

Family members tell NBC’s Buffalo affiliate that her name is Susan Elbaneh, 18, a senior at Lackawanna High School. They said she went to Yemen to marry to a Yemini man and that she and her new husband were at the embassy when it was attacked.

The State Department and the FBI say they are aware of the family’s statement but say they have received no confirmation. One U.S. official says it appears the young woman had legitimate business at the embassy and was not involved in the attack.

Officials say she is related to Jaber Elbaneh, charged with being a member of the Lackawanna Six terror cell. He’s also believed to have played a role in the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen. He has been in and out of Yemeni custody but is now at large, and the US is offering a $5 million reward for his capture.
