Tap’d NY founder Craig Zucker says when he first came to the city in 2003 from Ohio he could tell right away that the tap water was better.
Last year, he founded his bottled water company, which promotes itself as having a “local twist.”
The company draws its product from the city’s public water system and purifies it using reverse osmosis.
Zucker says his company is a for-profit business with a message – that water should be “kept honest and local.” He says shipping water into New York from places like Fiji and France is an insult to the city.
The hype in the press about TAP’D NY is not only about the water, its also about how they’re running their business.
The company encourages New York City residents to refil their water bottles with any old New York City tap water! At any City water tap! Instead of buying more filled TAP’D NY bottles!
They call it like it is in all of its advertising. If the water doesn’t come from a well, a mountain stream, or a glacier, the company refuses to say it does. Their slogan: Truth in Hydration. Actually, New York City water does come from a pretty nice place from the Catskill Mountains.
Zucker pays only his city water bill for his company’s product.
good luck.
Coca Cola’s Dasani water is the same thing.
enjoy ur insects
most bottled water is from the tap
why would anyone buy it in the first place
from the tap water is just pennies
What’s So Shocking,
Yes and no. Granted Dasani or Pepsi’s Aqufina water is coming from local sources, they are filtering it and adding some minerals back to it. The point of those waters always was to serve as the water WITHOUT the flavors or carbonation and THATS ALL it is.
Anon 1102,
You are also incorrect. Most of the “bottled” water that says Natural Spring Water is just that, water that comes from a spring … of sorts. They dont necessarily bottle it at the source however they could truck it to the bottling location. This is my experience.
“New York City water does come from a pretty nice place from the Catskill Mountains.”
Some of it comes from the Croton Reservoir which is on the other side of the Hudson from the Catskills.
The same water system also supplies most towns in Westchester County.
If you really want to add dollar for dollar the amount $ you end up paying for the DEP (if you own property) is just as much per bottle. Personally, I think it would be a great idea for a change the DEP should run that dep. as a business and sell those bottles, to cover their discrepancy losses …
FYI: New York City does not test for MTBE and it was found in private wells. MTBE’s can not be filtered -not by reverse osmosis or the water table. If you dont test then you dont know and that is why I drink POlack Springs.
MTBE is an absolute solvent and was found leaking from many gas stations in LI and elsewhere.
Some say Mayim Chaim water comes from a tap in williamsburg
TAP WATER IS BETTER THAN ANYTHING!
I heard out-of-towners use this brand to wash their toilet bowls with. They claim it works better than Mr. Clean.
charlie hall,
you are incorrect in your statement. water comes from upstate & is brought down to the reservoirs closer to the NYC area. granted any rain water over westchester’s reservoirs is an added blessing.
You gotta hand it to this guy. He really knows how to make money!
Obviously a Jewish Idea.
What in the world is Polack Spring
jm [in the] 9:46AM. Mayim Chaim happens to be a very good-tasting water (even if it comes from a Mikvah on Hewes [or Hooper] Street)!!!
p.s.: The above is not a PAID [or UNPAID] endorsement. Only the truth!!!
Good tip for Tap’d water Co. Just add an “EZ Filter” to each [bottle] cap!!!
Our EZF clogged up in 1 1/2 days!!!
