Chicago, IL – Congregants at the KAM Isaiah Israel synagogue across the street from Obama’s home in Chicago won’t have to worry about being searched when they attend services for Rosh Hashana this month and Yom Kippur in October.
Since the Illinois senator became his party’s presidential nominee, the Secret Service has boosted security near his Hyde Park home.
That has meant spot checks for people walking down the block, much to the consternation of worshippers.
“Folks attending high holiday services are not going to have to submit to any additional screening,” said Malcolm Wiley, a Secret Service spokesman.

It’s reasonable to expect increased security for Obama, considering the threats to his life.
McCain doesn’t have to worry about this as much, because his wife’s 8 homes are not in areas that are as public as Obama’s Chicago home.
It’s only done out of necessity. (for the safety of [Pres. Can.]Sen. Obama). Also, it’s only “Spot Checks”, not a barrier! So, it’s nice to hear that the Secret Service will take this extra step not to
inconvenience the [Jewish] worshippers at the Synagogue!!!
p.s: It’s interesting to see how [some] people intermix [political] ideology with simple, basic, normal necessities of life!

All presidential candidates get some sort of protection; in Obama’s case, white supremicist groups have made threats. They have not made similar threats to McCain.
McCain himself said that he has 8 homes. I doubt that any of them are very accessible to the general public.
And how can Obama afford an expensive home? Do the math: $1,000,000 home = $100,000 downpayment, ~$5400 per month payment–quite doable for an attorney, U.S. senator, and successful author. Also, you do not know how long he has had the home; perhaps he bought it at a significantly lower price.
It’s definitely not a shame to be successful, but ridiculous for Republicans to say that it’s OK that McCain has a lot of money, but that Obama is an elitist.

The home, adjacent lot were bought and then resold to him at a significant reduction compared to market price. WHY. I can assure you that something smells very fishy and that that offer and price would not have been available to me nor you.

I assume that the congregation has its own safety precautions in place.
The secret service assumes the status of the Praetorian Guard in imperial Rome. No way are “spot checks” or other kinds of warrantless searches consistent with the letter of the American constitution. If a candidate is not willing to take the risk of being the target of one of the many armed lunatics running around loose, then he or she should save the taxpayers some money and just NOT run for office. We are not supposed to have a nobility in this country nor be ruled by an autocrat. What has happened to the USA?
