Urk, Netherlands – During a recent home renovation in the tiny village of Bilthoven, a Netherlands contractor says he unearthed a moving message apparently left behind as a farewell by a Jewish couple hiding from the Nazis during the Holocaust.

ABCNEWS (http://abcn.ws/1HwKPUt) reports that the contractor, Jelle Kapitein, said he and his fellow workers found the message dated April 23, 1942 scribbled on an old bathroom door during a routine renovation.
The message, which is written in Dutch and contains the birthdays and Amsterdam birthplaces of Levie Sajet and his wife Ester Zilberstein, requests the finder of the message to retrieve their personal belongings from the roof of the structure and attempt to return them to any surviving family members after the war.
“Look on the roof and find my last personal things and try after the war to find family of ours. Give them my things and you will become something,” the message reads.
Kapitein said he has enlisted the help of the Yad Vashem Museum in the Netherlands to help authenticate and locate any living relatives.
