Israel – In Nazareth on Wednesday, a well respected rabbi was sentenced to nine years in prison and fined 290,000 shekel after being found guilty of sexually abusing four teens he was entrusted to educate.

ISRAELNATIONALNEWS.com (http://bit.ly/1MJXwg0) reports that in handing down the sentence a judge told Rabbi Yaakov Deutsch from Afula that he had “flagrantly violated” the trust of the four young students—two boys and two girls–and has dealt a severe blow to their “dignity, liberty, and physical and mental well being.”
In court testimony, one of Deutsch’s accusers, a young girl who testified that her sexual relationship with the rabbi began when she was 15, told the court that Deutsch repeatedly used her haredi religious education to perpetuate the abuse, telling her that their ongoing relationship was “instruction from above.”
How can a charadi person hold a secular person responsible for chilul shabbos when all they see are disgusting debased religious people who do such terrible sins and crimes?
If I were a not observant Jew, I would be repulsed from any observance of mitzvos because I would think that if this is what religious people are like, they are not any better than non religious.

I understand 9 years for sexual abuse. What I don’t understand is why it’s not longer when the abuser uses his/her authority to abuse these innocent children. They should have sentenced him to 9 years per child. DISGUSTING!!!
1,2, &3 are right on the money. At least this sick animal is now behind bars. But I am very concerned about Taubenfeld in Monsey, with his sick buddies who laugh at Leiby Stern, the victim, in court. What disgusting creeps. I hope the jury IS biased when they saw that contemptuous behavior – which bad as it is, is nowhere near the evil of horror & evil that Taubenfeld perpetrated on his victims. I haven’t read much, what is happening in the trial?

Unfortunately, secular people do think like #1 said, but it’s important to remember that every group has people who are off the charts, (black sheep), and they might just look frum on the outside. Secondly not everything you hear is true, it could be plain loshon hara.

To respond to 6 and 11, yes all groups do have individuals who commit horrendous acts like theses. But not all groups bury their heads in the sand and ignore these horrendous acts allow them to continue including victim blaming. That is where comment number is right on point.
im horrified. I am ultra frum from a very frum community. unfortunately I must admit that sexual abuse exists among the frum. and I feel so sorry for those kids. I myself suffered rape as a teen and it never leaves me. I am over 50 now and still not a day goes by without flashbacks and I spent hours and dollars for therapy and medicine. the only relief is to see those who abuse behind bars.
