United Nations - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned on Friday the killing of a Palestinian child in the West Bank, saying the absence of a peace process and Israel’s illegal settlement policy had sparked violent extremism by Jews and Palestinians.

Jewish settlers were suspected of torching a Palestinian home in the occupied West Bank on Friday, killing an 18-month-old child and seriously injuring his parents and brother, an act that Israel’s prime minister described as terrorism.

“Continued failures to effectively address impunity for repeated acts of settler violence have led to another horrific incident involving the death of an innocent life. This must end,” Ban’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.

Though Israel has promised to crack down on such extremists, only a handful of indictments have been handed down.

The Israeli military boosted forces to search for the suspects in Friday’s attack, described by a spokesman as “two masked terrorists,” and to prevent any escalation in violence. The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas called for revenge.

Ban urged all parties to ensure that tensions do not escalate further.

“The absence of a political process and Israel’s illegal settlement policy, as well as the harsh and unnecessary practice of demolishing Palestinian houses, have given rise to violent extremism on both sides,” he said.

Palestinians seek a state in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, lands Israel captured in 1967. Settlements that Israel has built on territory captured in 1967 are considered illegal under international law.

Israeli police said Friday’s attack appeared to be retribution by a settler group that opposes Israeli government curbs on the expansion of settlements.

The last round of U.S.-brokered peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians broke down in 2014.

Nice! How quick he was to condemn this act of terrorism!

In no way am I endorsing this act, however, the UN in their typical fashion condemns this act much quicker than the terrorist act that killed the entire Fogel family.

How about the Palestinian honoring terror victims, Hamas?

When listing the reasons for lack of peace in the middle east the UN can only conjure up reasons that they say Israel is to blame for. They couldn't think of one thing that the Palestinians are responsible for that is preventing peace? Maybe if the UN condemned acts of terror committed against Israel as quickly and as vociferously as this act of terror (as of now allegedly committed by Jewish extremists) the chances for peace would be better. Perhaps the UN should list itself as one of the reasons for there not being peace yet.

Illegal settlement and failure of negotiations? What sparked the anti-Jew violence in 1936? What sparked the attack of the Arab nations against Israel when it was created in 1948 by a UN resolution? Let's be honest. Israel has it's crazies to deal with (those who think "land" is the only mitzvah in the Torah). But the violence was not started in 1967.

It is unbelievable that any Jew, frum or not, would not consider this murder. WE all should be ashamed. This is where we have reached.

Ban Ki Moon and all the other self-righteous ignoramuses in the UN are not worth the air that they pollute with their idiotic anti-Semitic comments. Can't wait for Iran to nuke them all so that they can see what their evil work has caused.

You're spot on. Stabbing Gay Pride marchers was described by one nebuch here as "righteous indignation" - and burning a baby alive is primarily fodder for political commentary...such is the majority VIN mindset.

How close, really, are some of us becoming to "their" terrorists. And for aking this, some jerks are going to call me a self-hating Jew.

Reminds me of a line in the mid-60s song The Eve of Destruction:

"Hate your next door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace."

These scutsim bring shame and embarrassment to us all.

He should condemn this attack and we should also condemn this attack. But I would love to see a sentiment analysis of the news reports when a Jew does a terror attack vs. when a Moslem does one. You never hear of the EU condemning those, and Ban and Obama eventually condemn them. But not with anywhere the speed they condemn the lone Jewish attack on the poor y"shm palies.
