FILE - Completed Chestnut Ridge homes. Nov. 24, 2014 (Shimon Gifter/VINnews.com) Bloomingburg, NY – In yet another victory for the hotly contest Chestnut Ridge housing development, the village of Bloomingburg issued the first 24 certificates of occupancy for the newly constructed townhomes.

“This is great news for Bloomingburg,” Aaron Rabiner, the only Chasidic member of the village’s three person board, told VIN News. “It will be great for the village to have some revenue open up and get a boost for the tax base. The village has spent a tremendous amount of money on litigations and lawsuits and the extra revenue is desperately needed.”

Rabiner said that he expects certificates of occupancy to be issued for the remaining 27 completed houses in the controversial complex. Construction will continue for the remaining 345 homes that have yet to be built.

Having the certificates in hand will allow the normal home buying process to continue, according to the Bloomingburg Jewish Community Council’s Michael Fragin.

“This will allow the houses to be sold,” said Fragin. “There are already houses that are under contract and now people can go for mortgages, close on their houses and do the normal things that people do when they buy houses.”

Fragin declined to disclose the number of houses are currently under contract, saying only, “We are moving forward.”

Mazel Tov to Reb Lamm for his fortitude in seeing this through to completion. He overcame a lot of obstacles and false allegations in bringing this initial phase to closing. As the son of one of the greatest roshei yeshivos in modern times, he acted at all times in the great tradition of his father, a big tzadik and talmid chacham.

I am not sure if this is a Kiddush Hashem as the whole project was only approved through trickery .

Hooray for the good guys. There was no question that ultimately the development would succeed. Every new project always has opposition. This initiative had an extra ingredient of Hassidim. Nevertheless, it’s an earned, well deserved victory.
