New York, NY – The plot is thickening at Touro College, with more arrests and charges involving former officials, teachers and students who allegedly sold or bought degrees and grades, officials said yesterday.

Two ex-administrators, already accused of selling grades and diplomas, were slapped yesterday with 40 new charges of forgery, bribe receiving, falsifying business records and violating education law.
Former Manhattan-campus admissions honcho Andrique Baron, 35, of Elmont, LI, and former Brooklyn-campus computer bigwig Michael Cherner, 51, of Brooklyn, allegedly pocketed tens of thousands of dollars in bribes from students who wanted to change their bad grades to A’s – or even purchase fictitious degrees.
Semyon Lev, 56, was also arrested and charged with selling grades after he took over for Cherner.
The three employees were among 21 arrested in the case, including students who bought grades and city public school teachers who bought phony master’s degrees at about $4,000 each they did not earn.
The yearlong probe snared four teachers who allegedly claimed advanced degrees that allowed them to collect an additional $10,000 in salary.

well I was always wondering the dummest of the dummest in high school – all of a sudden a year later you hear they have a masters…… and I always ask myself is it that easy? look I understand after paying to attend a college in the end they will give you that paper after all you got to get your moneys worth, but it never made sense to me how that dumb guy recieved his masters….. now I know the answer, most colleges WILL give you that piece of paper after spending thousands of dollars – but to be so corrupt.
I wonder if at the Ivy Leagues you can also buy your degree, I guess its possible.

anon 11.48 look I also attended a college for approx 2 weeks after I was there for 2 weeks I observed things that are so SICK that I got the hell out of there, they teach you dumb things you are surrounded by dumb students and you observe dumb things that I wouldnt put in writing, let alone if you go to a school were the boys and girls are mixed its all a farce.
You know what the only profession you really need a degree or better you need to study first hand is if you go to Medical or Law school all other fields you can get on the job training and if you are a quick thinker in no time you know it all.

This is a shanda, and those involved should be brought before a din torah made up of legitimate rabbis with earned (not purchased) smichas.

Why did the students that bought degrees also get arrested?
When Touro opened many Gedolim in the USA where against it, for many reasons, I guess this CHILLUL HASEM could be one of them, it should be shut down, just because some Kollel wives are holding out their families is NOT enough of a reason to attend Touro. In the Ketuba it reads that the husband is responsible for the finances NOT THE wife. besides the NISYONOS that women have in the work field… Yeah, but my husband is a Ben Torah, a bunch of hug-wash.

The main person behind this scheme, Andrique Baron, isn’t Jewish. Is there any evidence that anybody above him in the administration was involved?
The people involved were fromn the non-Jewish divisions of Touro. Anyway, I’m sure this happens in other college/universities also, not always are people like this caught!
well I attended Touro and then Fordham, and I can tell you this, Touro did not concentrate at all with my writing skills and did not correct me with test papers and so I had to struggle at Fordham where I almost dropped out because it was overwhelming. I did make it Boruch Hashem., but Touro has to shape up!
People on this site love to be motzai shem rah. Touro like anything else in this world has good and bad. Stop focusing on the bad. They fill a very needed area in the frum community. After spending years in regular yeshivos, noone is going to go to YU for college. Kudos to them.
Touro College has undergraduate schools such as School of General Studies, New York School of Career and Applied Studies, as well as Lander College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of liberal Arts and Sciences etc… These are undergraduate Touro College’s sections within its college. If a student is awarded an Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree the transcript will reflect some courses they will not attend. This means that if a student wants to pursue education in another institution their credential will be questioned and most likely not accepted even though Touro College is Fully Accredited. Touro College’s undergraduate practices are fraudulent. Since courses are added which a student never attended.
If a student with a Bachelor Degree from undergraduate Touro College decides to go for a degree in Touro Colleges graduate programs such as Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy or Occupational Therapy; the student will never graduate the program because the Directors of the graduate programs are aware of Touro College’s undergraduate Degree granting fraud.
