ABC7NY.com (http://7ny.tv/1QYXEde) reports that fire officials have now backed off their original statements alluding to natural gas from a stove being the cause of the blast, and are now focused on video surveillance of the incident and a social media trail left behind by one of the dead victims for answers.
According to video of the event, explosion experts now believe gas was not a factor because of a simultaneous blast and fireball initiated from the second floor apartment of one of the deceased, 48-year-old Francisca Figueroa.
Experts say the type of blast doesn’t match up with similar explosions in which gas is a factor.
Officials also said that Figueroa’s gas had been shut off in June coinciding with her eviction, and one source has said the mother of three sent out farewell texts to her children just prior to the blast Saturday afternoon.
NY Daily news say that one lead investigators are probing is, that Figueroa may have used chemicals taken from her Franchezka Unisex Salon, which was located nearby, to initiate the blast.
Before all the facts, Eric Adams and others call for tougher gas regulations
David Greenfield was urging everyone to call 911 in case they smell gas. I just wish that all of these politicians would refrain from their photo ops whenever a tragedy strikes. No one is really interested in what they have to say. They’re looking for a sound bite on radio or TV. They don’t realize that no one cares or believes what they’re saying.
