Tzipi Hotovely told Israel’s Army Radio that she initiated changes in the course curriculum to include a greater emphasis on the Jewish people’s ancient links to the land. It will include compulsory tours to the City of David, a Jewish settlement in traditionally Arab east Jerusalem, seized by Israel in the 1967 war.

Hotovely says it is important to stress that Jewish settlements are legal “by law and custom.”

The international community generally considers settlement in lands captured in the 1967 war to be illegal and illegitimate. With Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also serving as foreign minister, Hotovely oversees the office’s day-to-day operations.

‘ it is important to stress that Jewish settlements are legal “by law and custom.”’

The United States first warned Israel against that fiction way back in 1968. The settlement enterprise crashed Israel’s economy back in the 1980s and is more responsible than anything else for making Israel into an international pariah. 🙁

She should study decades worth of publications and internal documents by various Israeli politicians, generals, and prime ministers including Natanyahu himself who understands that a degree of settlements especially in occupied Area C are only being used as a political tactic and are a problem under international law. Since Oslo and before Oslo peace talks, generations of Israeli governments understood that West Bank settlements just like Gaza are not sustainable nor legal and that’s why Israelis were willing to relinquish vast amounts of settlements back to the Arabs during negotiations.

    First stop calling it “settlements”!
Call it Israel’s land occupied by Palestinians!
Or just call it Judea and Samaria at least.
