U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said Thursday Avrohom Goldstein, of Brooklyn, was sentenced to 45 months. Ariel Potash, of Monsey, New York, got a 14-month sentence and Sholom Schuchat, of Brooklyn, was sentenced to time served.
All three pleaded guilty earlier to one count each of crossing state lines to commit extortion.
Goldstein, Potash, and Schuchat were arrested in October 2013 with seven others in an undercover sting. Jewish law mandates that a husband present his wife with a document, known as a “get,” to make divorce official.
Prosecutors said the team used brutal methods, including handcuffs and electric cattle prods, to torture men into granting gets.
Someone sang his way out of hard time.
How do you know and how are you publicizing lies and shkorim
Rabbonim made Bais Din money and used these kids to do their dirty work. Pnei ha-dor kepnai hakelev. T.hey still are trying to get the goods on one from Queens.
if the singers got 4 years, what are the singees going to get in dec.?
the moisers get the better deal. everyone knows that
They might be frum, but they certainly did not know that ‘dina d’malchusa dina’. Every one who is shomer mitzvos should know that.
The law of the land is the law applies except when it forces you to do an averrah.
Nobody is addressing the fact that the biggest victims are the women who relied on the coerced GET to remarry and now their children are Mamzeirim or at best Sofek Mamzerim as all respectable Rabbonon and Gedolim declared such Gittin to be invalid. I know women today in Lakewood who nobody wants to marry because their GET was also obtained through coercion even if it was not physical but through court schemes.
The only moisser will be sentenced in January.
