The Alameda County district attorney’s office charged Denise Slader earlier this week with misdemeanor battery and civil rights violations.
Corrections spokesman Luis Patino said Friday that Slader has been placed on leave while the agency conducts its own investigation.
She is a program technician for the department’s parole division.
Authorities say Slader interrupted a group of men praying in a Castro Valley park Dec. 6.
When one of the men filmed her outburst she threw coffee at him.
Slader told station KNTV that the Muslim religion is “dangerous” and her actions were “instinctual.”
