The victim was walking home from the train and was on Avenue M at East 8th Street when he was assaulted from behind by a suspect who hit him in the head with a closed fist. Police said that the victim fell to the ground and was beaten repeatedly by his attacker as he lay on the ground.

The suspect rolled the victim over, with a second suspect arriving on scene, and the pair searched the victim’s pockets, taking the his wallet and iPhone. The two men, dressed in light colored pants and hooded jackets, fled on foot towards Ocean Parkway. The entire episode was caught on surveillance video which was released by Brooklyn South Shomrim.

According to the NYPD, no words were exchanged during the beating which is being investigated as an assault and a robbery. The incident is not currently being considered a hate crime.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind told VIN News that both he and Senator Simcha Felder will be announcing a $3,000 joint reward at 1 PM this afternoon, to be paid to anyone who has information leading to the arrest of the two perpetrators.

Hikind, who lives around the corner from the scene of the attack, said that he was appalled by the vicious nature of the attack.

“We all know that there is some crime, but what makes it so egregious is that they beat the daylights out of him,” Hikind told VIN News. “They didn’t just stop him and rob him, they beat the daylights out of him.”

Hikind noted that the neighborhood is typically safe and that despite the late hour, it isn’t uncommon for people to be out at that time, making the attack that much more chilling.

“The last minyan at Landau’s, which is just a block away is at 1 AM,” observed Hikind. “The video speaks louder than anything I could say. You can be out in our neighborhood, which is so safe, and to have someone maliciously rob you and attack you and make sure that you are out of commission is scary and a great concern to us all.”

why was this video released on this site? this is someone’s son, brother, friend, neighbor. i don’t want to see a beating of anyone, much less a helpless victim of one of my own.

the frum community should offer self defense classes. we live in a scary world, where assaults are violent and anti semitism is ugly. we can’t allow ourselves to be attacked and hope our good deeds will save us. we must save ourselves first!

I’m wondering if there’s something out there A 1 pushbutton item that would automatically dial 911 and give your location so if an attack takes place it will be much easier than having to get yourself one out of your pocket and being on the phone with an operator
