Haifa, Israel – Some 35 passengers were injured on Thursday evening after a bus crashed into a wall in the Carmel Tunnels roadways in the Haifa area. The bus driver was among those hurt, police said.

Magen David Adom paramedics arrived at the scene and reported the injuries of varying degrees. MDA was providing initial treatment to the casualties, including one in very serious condition and three in serious conditions.
Police said the bus that crashed was from Egged’s Line 101 that left at 7:50 p.m. traveling from Haifa’s Hacarmel Beach to Lev Hamifratz. Police corned off entry and exit to the tunnel roads, solely permitting rescue vehicles access to the scene.
The Carmel Tunnels, also known as Route 23, are a set of roads whose purpose is to reduce road congestion in the Haifa area.
