Jerusalem – A militant Meah Shearim activist who has long been known for his uncompromising stance and his frequent clashes with authorities and others has been sentenced to jail for tax evasion.

Yoilish Krauss was sentenced to a seven month prison sentence and a fine of 50,000 NIS by an Israeli court today for failing to pay taxes on a Meah Shearim slaughterhouse as reported by Arutz Sheva.
Chief of operations for the Eida Charedis and a self described coordinator of violent demonstrations as reported in an exclusive 2009 VIN News interview (http://goo.gl/h4ZJ0p), Krauss does not hold an Israeli identification card, further hampering tax authorities from monitoring his operations, according to Dafna Abramowitz, a lawyer with the Jerusalem district attorney’s office.
The father of 16, Krauss has explained his lack of proper documentation by saying that he was born prematurely and with his future looking uncertain at the time, his birth was never recorded. According to Israeli news site Walla, Krauss has claimed that efforts to rectify that oversight had been snarled by red tape for years but that he is currently in the process of becoming officially registered with the Israeli government and expects to have proper identification within six months.
Today’s sentence is not the first time that Krauss’s slaughterhouse has gotten him in trouble with the law. Approximately four years ago, Krauss and an Arab worker were accused of skimming 2.5 million NIS from the business and operating the business without proper permits.
“This case is a perfect example of how difficult it can be to collect taxes, particularly in closed communities like Meah Shearim and those to the east of Jerusalem,” said Abramowitz.
If Krauss, who lives with his large family in a two room apartment, fails to pay the fine, he will face another 70 days in jail.
Krauss maintained his innocence today saying, “They are chasing me because I am Charedi. There is no other reason.”
All they could squeeze out on him was a 7 month sentence, just shows that he didn’t do much wrong, they were just out to put him away, NEBECH on the authorities, just a big bunch of SONEI YISRAELIM,
Not sure what he would want with money, isn’t he all Ruchnius.
Sounds like this guy could have benefitted from a couple years in the army.
How is it מותר to pay taxes to the Zionist regime?
There’s an expression like that. You can go to jail without ID but you certainly cannot get out of jail without ID. They will certainly generate him an ID card while in prison.
Not sure what he would want with money, isn’t he all Ruchnius.

This criminally insane ignorant savage barbarian should have been locked up a long time ago,or better yet deported to his friends in Gaza
He may well have benefited from couple of years in the army but you are making the same mistake all the “great levelers” in Israel make. Send the Haredim to the army so that we are all equal. The problem is that the army is an army not a branch of the Ministry of Social Welfare. Krauss may have benefited from the army but the army would not have benefited from wasting its time on a gook like him.
Anyone can dress like a G-d-fearing religious person, but acting like a G-d-fearing religious person is what truly matters. He claims he’s being discriminated against for identifying as a Charedi Jew … in this specific case, I doubt that.
