Forty-two new Citi Bike docking stations are coming to the two boroughs beginning in August.
Officials say the expansion will bring the bike share service up to 110th Street in Manhattan and to six Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens.
Mayor Bill de Blasio says the arrival of the new bikes into transit-deprived areas shows the city is committed to bolstering every community and battling inequality.
The mayor has promised the bike share network will eventually span all five boroughs.
Citi Bike says the additional stations will make the network more dense and convenient for riders. The group plans to have 12,000 bikes and 700 stations by the end of next year.
