New York – Wal-Mart says a display of Coke cans stacked to look like the World Trade Center at a Florida store has been removed and wasn’t meant to be disrespectful near the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack.

The display was mocked online after a photo was posted on Twitter, and Buzzfeed wrote about it.

The photo showed the World Trade Center towers built with Coke Zero packages. A backdrop of the American flag was made with red regular Coke, silver Diet Coke and blue Sprite.

Walmart said the display was removed Wednesday. It said, “We hold this moment in our country’s history in the highest regard, and there was nothing disrespectful intended.”

Coca-Cola said the display was meant to honor local firefighters. It apologized and said it has replaced the display.

Crazy world we live in. Target keeps their transgender/use whichever bathroom you idintify as policy, but Walmart feels the pressure and folds to a bunch of cry babies.

Even Budweiser didn’t use 9/11 for marketing.
2996 people died immediately, 2600 of them in New York. More die every day from the after effects.
No reason at all for people in New York to be touchy about using massive tragedy to sell soda.
While they are building soda displays, why not a crematorium? The gates of Aushwitz?
It’s just a tribute after all.
Or the Pearl Harbor bombing? There’s a trendy, catchy memorial.
Having lost family in those places, I don’t think it’s a good idea.
