As previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2j7MszY), Sergeant Sean Boag was off duty and on his way home from work on December 11, 2015, when he heard a call on his radio about a woman in active labor on the side of the highway near Red Bank.

The parents, a young couple from Lakewood who asked not to be identified, were en route to a New Brunswick hospital when they realized that their baby was about to be born and pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway’s northbound express lanes.

Sergeant Boag sped to the scene, arriving just four minutes before the baby girl was born in the couple’s Toyota Camry.

The couple paid a surprise visit to Sergeant Boag this past Friday, bringing their daughter to visit along with a gift to express their appreciation, telling Boag that he was “a gift from God.” Boag posed with the little girl who was clad in a pink onesie bearing the words “Future State Police NJ Trooper.”

The New Jersey State Police posted pictures of the reunion on Facebook noting, “This was a very happy, yet emotional visit for all. We appreciate the family taking the time to visit!”

Playing the role of the hero is nothing new to the 46 year old Sergeant Boag.

The father of three received a certificate of commendation in 2007 for his role in evacuating 275 guests from a Woodbridge Hotel fire two years earlier.

In 2008 Boag used his police cruiser to safely guide a runaway pickup truck off the Garden State Parkway during rush hour after the driver went into diabetic shock as reported by NJ.com.
