21 year old Moshe Goldberger had to make an unavoidable trip to Westchester today despite the snowy conditions. Traveling north in his car with his wife, Goldberger had just gotten on the Taconic Parkway in Hawthorne and was nearing his exit when the car in front of him spun out of control.

“I tried to stop but I couldn’t so I turned the wheel to the side and got stuck in the snow,” Goldberger told VIN News.

Goldberger’s uncle, Noach Fischer, who was also driving to Westchester in his minivan, pulled over onto the side of the road, hoping to be able to be of assistance.

A state trooper arrived on scene immediately, finding the two cars next to each other, both miraculously unscathed. Efforts to get Goldberger’s car back on the roadway proved to be unsuccessful.

“The police tried pushing me and they were very nice, but I couldn’t get out,” said Goldberger. “I tried to pull out on my own and to shovel the snow out of the way but it wasn’t helping.”

A Department of Transportation HELP truck was next to arrive on scene.

“He tried pulling me out also,” said Goldberger. “It moved a little, but not really. The car was down in the ditch in a big pile of snow.”

As Goldberger began contemplating his next move, a fleet of three black SUVs pulled up with one man stepping out to offer his assistance.

“He was working under the car, connecting a cable from his car to mine and after 10 minutes my car was out of the snow,” recalled Goldberger.

Thanking the good Samaritan, Goldberger asked the other man’s name. He was stunned to find out that it was none other than Governor Cuomo, on his way home from a storm briefing on Long Island.

“He told me who he was and then the state trooper told me who he was,” said Goldberger. “I was shocked.”

Goldberger’s wife, Dini, who had gone to sit in her uncle’s minivan during the rescue attempts,
said that had she been closer to the car, she would have recognized the governor immediately.

“My husband showed me a picture of the man who had helped him and I said, ‘wait, that is Governor Andrew Cuomo,’” said Mrs. Goldberger. “He was amazing, getting under the car himself and really getting his hands dirty.”

Goldberger said that he plans to put together a letter to express his appreciation to the governor.

“My wife we couldn’t stop talking about how thankful we were for his help,” said Goldberger, adding that Cuomo definitely has his vote in the next election.
