San Diego, CA - The La Jolla Shores Advisory Board has approved Adat Yeshurun Synagogue’s request to add an Eruv on its property.  “There simply is no way to push a stroller, to wheel a wheelchair and still be in compliance with Jewish law,” said Michael Rosen, of Adat Yeshurun. “An Eruv is a simple mechanism that enables us to do what everyone else is able to do already on the Shabbas.”  But opponents said it would divide the community. Supporters claimed virtually no imposition on neighbors. “This is something that helps people tremendously who are of the Orthodox Jewish faith,” said David Kupferberg, of Adat Yeshurun Synagogue. “Quite frankly, we feel that it is quite consistent with requirements that it should have community benefit.”  Since the border would be on public property, the synagogue needs to obtain a right of way permit. The motion will now go to the city planning commission.
