Washington, DC +Suspicious Package Near White House+ Police have sealed off the front NW gates of the White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, due to suspicious package that was thrown over the fence onto the north lawn by a Frenchman.  The Secret Service also secured the White House and raised its internal alert system by one level during the incident, and reporters, cameramen and photographers were told to remain inside the briefing room while officers investigated. U/D: 11:34 Bomb detecting robot on the scene to investigate, the president just left in his helicopter from the South Lawn. U/D: 11:59 One suspect a French national is in custody, PD still investigating the package. U/D: 12:33 Inceident terminated, item declared safe, all units to take up.

Tom Mazur, spokesman for the Secret Service, said a similar incident had occurred before. Officials proceeded with bomb investigating procedures as a precaution though past incidents involving have not involved explosives
