Far Rockaway, NY – Queens Man Arrested In Hit & Run That Injured Young Israel Rabbi

    Rodolfo Benitez, 46, of Far Rockaway, Queens Photo Credit: NCPDFar Rockaway, NY – Nearly 10 months after a Long Island rabbi was seriously injured in a hit and run accident, a 46 year old Far Rockaway man has been arrested and charged in the incident.

    Rodolfo Benitez, a resident of Sage Street, was apprehended by the Nassau County Police Department on Friday in connection with the accident which took place in front of the Young Israel of West Hempstead last year.

    As previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2vBqnoL), Rabbi Yehuda Kelemer was struck by a pickup truck as he attempted to cross Hempstead Avenue on December 12th.

    An NCPD spokesman said that he could not provide any details of Benitez’s arrest and that Benitez has no prior arrests in Nassau County.

    Benitez was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with evidence and was arraigned today at First District Court in Hempstead.
