Mattis spoke at the White House on Sunday following a meeting with President Donald Trump and national security advisers. He says any response will be “both effective and overwhelming.”

Mattis says the United States is “not looking to the total annihilation” of North Korea, but added “we have many options to do so.”

North Korea claimed “perfect success” in an underground test of what it called a hydrogen bomb — potentially vastly more destructive than an atomic bomb. It was the North’s sixth nuclear test since 2006, but the first since Trump took office in January.

Ain’t nothing going to happen. The President is like the Big Bad Wolf, who huffed, puffed, but couldn’t blow down the house. The consequences of any military action are too painful to contemplate. Short of an actual attack on the US (c”v), Trump doesn’t have the international support needed to justify military retaliation.

We learned in elementary school that a threat that will never be carried out is useless. Don’t say anything. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names (and bombast) will never harm me.

And if you ever have to carry out a threat, don’t give a pre-advice. Just do it!
