Apparently Governor Andrew Cuomo never got that memo from New York City mayor Bill de Blasio, because while de Blasio threw his support behind Cuomo months in advance of the 2014 election, the governor is not returning the favor as the mayor continues in his bid to seek a second term.
Cuomo was quick to note that there was nothing personal in his refusal to endorse de Blasio, reported The New York Post (http://nyp.st/2wBXTIC).
“I’m a Westchester resident,” explained the governor, who has often ended up on the different side of the fence than de Blasio over the last several years. “I’m not voting in this election so I don’t have any primary endorsements.”
The governor’s logic may not sit well with the de Blasio camp, given his endorsement of a candidate in a Queens City Council primary, another race in an election where Cuomo is ineligible to vote. Crain’s New York (http://bit.ly/2wBhp8j) reported that Cuomo endorsed incumbent Queens City Councilman Peter Koo last week in his primary battle against challenger Alison Tan.
de Blasio wil be facing off against Ultro Labs CEO Michael Tolkin, attorney Richard Bashner, City Councilman Sal Albanese and former executive director of the New York Correctional Association Robert Gangi in the September 12th Democratic primary.
