The Democrat is expected to release a letter on Monday calling on each member to provide a personal commitment to freedom of the press, which is protected under the First Amendment. A news conference is scheduled at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

Blumenthal says the FCC, not Trump, has the authority to approve broadcaster licenses and cannot base its decisions on its dislike of the content of speech or programming. He says FCC must reassure the nation.

Trump is threatening NBC’s broadcast licenses because he’s not happy with how its news division has covered him.

Some of us remember the days when news channels actually reported what had happened and then allowed the viewer to formulate their own opinions. Today the networks (primarily MSNBC) have a different role, namely to instruct the viewer on which opinion is correct. I’d have no problem with this if the networks would be up front about it and stop calling themselves “news.” This would solve far more problems than Mr. Blumenthal’s “pledge” would.

Wrong very wrong. In fact I believe its time to rethink free speech. Do we want neo nazis walking around with swasstickers and yelling nazis slogans in the name of free speech? Similarly do we want islamists running around saying g-d damn america and encouraging jihad because its free speech?

Do we want news agency to publish top secret information and or contentious lies thereby often stirring up emotions, anger confusion and obstructing our government from functioning?

Ok the last one I get it , that maybe controversial but even the folks on the left of me must admit free speech is some times bad. And if its part of our constitution wel change it because the constitution is no prophecy from g-d and could be changed.

The poor libtard Democtrat senator is scared out of his mind, because he realizes that support for the First Amendment and pulling NBC’s license are not two contradictory things.

And, oh by the way, all Government employee swear or affirm their commitment toe the entire US Constitution when they are hired. A separate commitment to the First Amendment is redundant, and not necessary.

The FCC restricts speech on anything broadcasted, as is its right.
