In the op-ed Friday, written in response to allegations of sexual assault against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, the observant Jewish actress said she has long made decisions that she considers “self-protecting and wise.”
“I have decided that my sexual self is best reserved for private situations with those I am most intimate with,” Bialik wrote. “I dress modestly. I don’t act flirtatiously with men as a policy.”
Social media users said that Bialik was insinuating she had not been sexually harassed or assaulted due to her choices and that she was contributing to victim blaming. The op-ed was published as countless women around the world recounted their instances of sexual harassment and abuse using the hashtag #MeToo.
On Monday, Bialik defended her column in a Facebook Live video event with The Times. But on Wednesday she changed course, writing on Twitter that she was “very sorry.”
“What you wear and how you behave does not provide any protection from assault,” Bialik wrote, “nor does the way you dress or act in any way make you responsible for being assaulted.”
So maybe it’s about time that she herself as a so called orthodox actress should get off stage and adopt modesty too.
Everyone always runs their mouth and then apologizes.
Btw she wrote her op ed on friday the second day yom tov and yet she calls herself orthodox
She folded like a cheap tent.
another one of the wishy washy Hollywood dumbells
She was right. It doesn’t mean that the villain isn’t a villain, it just means that it’s dumb to wear a Rolex in a dangerous neighborhood at 2AM because it invites “incidents”, likewise with immodesty.
She is not pretty, and that is why men don’t force themselves on her.
What has happened to this one-time spiritual and ivy-educated woman? She’s been all over the place on many issues. Troubled!
While it is wrong for men to act in immoral ways, if women dress in a sexually attractive way, they are going to make some men come after them in immoral ways. Some men will not be able to think properly and will err. Look at pedophiles, who can’t control themselves even for something so wrong and bad. Now look at the average normal man with strong desires, and put them around sexy dressed women…the men are just wanting to do what is normal for the average man and women, and hopefully consenting…
I think she has a point in that we as women help to create a certain environment by how we dress. At the same time, nothing will stop a true predator, and it is sad to see society reaping the results of our say anything, do anything, everything is relative morality.
Amazing how the liberals are protecting one of their own heroes in Weinstein.
The man in a menuval. Any money received by him should be returned.
Shas been forced to apologise simply because the goyish world is so messed up today that they cannot differentiate between right and wrong on any issue.
Apoligize??!! What she said is a fact of life!! Apoligize the SLIMES?
That’s not what she said at all! These are your reform opinion which means zilch.
