A total of 120 protesters were arrested on Thursday during demonstrations against the detainment of haredi yeshiva students by the military police for failing to perform the bureaucratic requirements to obtain a military service exemption. Twenty-seven detainees refused to identify themselves and were held in detention until Sunday, with the police marking their hands with numbers for reference purposes until they agreed to identify themselves in order to be released.

The yeshiva students in question are associated with the Jerusalem Faction grouping which for reasons of internal politics within the haredi world has forbade yeshiva students from cooperating in any way with the IDF and the Defense Ministry. Throughout Thursday, protesters from the extremist Jerusalem Faction group blocked main roads in Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Safed and Bnei Brak.

Some 90 detainees were released with restrictions on Friday, while the 27 who had refused to identify themselves were released on Sunday, some of whom were however handed over to the Military Police since it was discovered that they too had failed to apply for their military service exemption, rendering them legally army deserters. Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem and head of the Bnei Torah party, which is the political arm of the Jerusalem Faction, in the Jerusalem Municipal Council described the incident as “horrific” and “the ugly side” of the Israel Police. “This reminds us of times we thought would not return. I don’t know who decided this, but it is clear that it is not someone whose family experienced the Holocaust,” said Epstein.

The police noted that refusing to identify oneself to the courts is a crime and that the legal process necessitates police to identify those who have broken the law in order to compile evidence and to formulate the case against the accused.

“Therefore, the investigators were forced to count the detainees in a way that would enable them to be monitored,” a police spokeswoman said.

So what do you propose? we let the hoards of uneducated, bored, future-less and LEADERLESS “Yeshivaleit” run wild and disrupt the country, sowing more intra religious discord? They should be put i jail with their “so called” leaders including someone whose father was the gadol hador.

the police should show NO MERCY on them.

They (including their rabbinic leaders, who do not follow the dictates of the general gedolei hador) should all be put in jail or deported. Heard Lithuania is noce this time of year…..

These criminally insane TRAITOROUS ignorant savages and their so called leader from Sharei-Chesed the ZAKEN MAMREH (that’s what Harav Chaim Kanievsky called him) should all be put on trial for sedition and high treason, and if found guilty give them long prison sentences and throw away the keys or better yet, deport them to their friends in Gaza or Teheran

Arrest their leaders, arrest their parents, cut off all gov’t subsidies to them and their Yeshivos, and slowly run through them if they block the roads. It’ll be over in 24 hours

If we do not know who they are, their names, how can we know their religion?

So they let them go home without identifying themselves?
    Way, way too lenient.

A true yeshiva bucher would never act in the way that these bums have been acting. It is contrary to a torah education.Whoever prompted this civil disobedience should be arrested and put in jail ,plus a stiff fine.If this is what can happen bein hazmanim than the yeshiva must be open directly after yomtov to prevent this hefkerous .

We KNOW the Peleg people are crazy, but stamping them? Are they insane? That gives them reason to compare the police to Nazis. Fuel to the fire.

I agree with #8 &#8 217;s post &#8 211; hit them, their Yeshivot and their families where it hurts. As for #12 , we all know Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach is the instigator. Nobody will touch him, but they sure can and should throw these parasites in jail until they give up their names & TZ&#8 217;s. And the longer they stay the more cash they will get, which the government should take to pay for the overtime of the police MY taxes went to, instead of fixing my street.

HaRav Pam used to say that “Kol nesivaseha shalom”…. all the ways of the Torah come with Shalom. If it’s not shalom, it’s not nesivaseha.

While this is 100% wrong, these low lives had no right to stop traffic & to go against the Torah they say they are fighting for. Also, these low lives have called people they don’t like Nazis for way to long, hate to say this they asked for this. Please remember I’m only saying they deserved to be taken in with a number not that it was anything like the holocaust or they deserve the holocaust actions.

I’m sorry to say but these are not erlicheh yidden.

    “NOTES
Often used with Yiddish prenominal adjectival suffix: erliche yidden. “Erlich” connotes complete or legitimate observance, not honesty in personal dealings.”

In other words lowlife people who justify being animals with fake religion.

I see a distinction between drawing a number on someone with ink that will eventually come off (in a few weeks) vs. putting a tattoo on someone that will last a lifetime. Still, if does evoke bad memories. Couldn’t they have simply taken photos of each suspect and put a number on each photograph?
