Chicago, IL – Former President Barack Obama says Americans must be vigilant in their defense of democracy or risk following the path of Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

At a speech earlier this week, the former president told the Economic Club of Chicago that “things can fall apart fairly quickly” if Americans don’t “tend to this garden of democracy.”
During the speech Tuesday, Obama pointed to Hitler’s rise to power in Germany as he implored the audience to “pay attention … and vote.”
Obama also defended the media. He said the press “often drove me nuts” but that he understood that a free press was vital to democracy.
We don’t have much democracy. Everyone votes, but the Electoral College decides. And the choices to start with are bad. A two party system is marginally better than a one party system, but it’s not good enough.
In other words, “do as I say, not as I did.”

I fail to see Obama’s point. To the contrary Hitler was elected democratically. Once he won a significant amount of votes in a democratic fashion he then went and cyt a deal with chancellor where he consolidated control and then got rid of free press and other demorcatic principles. However, had the system not been democratic to start with Hitler would have never rose to power. Under an authoritarian Putin like system a Hitler would have had no place.
Before you all scream that hey I am Putin puppet. I am ot suggesting that Putin’s way is better but I don’t clealry se why democracy is so great. I think ultimatley we need a balance between the two here radiclaism can never sprout

President Obama and his agenda were willingly aided and abetted by the mainstream press. Collusion between the government and the so called free press is antithetical to democracy.
