Students at the Woodland Middle School in Gurnee, Illinois, were assigned last week to “create a comic strip for little kids that exemplifies Europe’s appeasement towards Hitler,” Chicago television channel WGN reported.
The cartoons that were turned in included swastikas and characters dressed like Nazi storm troopers.
One parent posted a picture of the Hitler-themed homework on her Facebook page, which raised questions from other parents.
The school district is investigating the assignment, WGN reported.
In a letter to students’ parents, school officials wrote that the “objective of the lesson is in alignment with district curriculum.” It also said, however, that the assignment was not meant to minimize Holocaust atrocities.
Don’t see what the problem is kids should be taught that there is no appeasing evil you just have to wipe them out
it is important for everyone to know how Hitler ym”s got into power so that it should never happen again. Making cartoons perhaps was not the ideal way, but it seems not encouraging Nazism….
Unfortunately , even college students cant remember events that happened 10 years ago and only hold onto things that occured yesterday.
Those who don’t learn from history end up voting for Republicans.
I am horrified at the inane remarks by the commentators here. None seem to understand that the Nazi character (apparently Hitler) was drawn as a lovable little pony, apparently mimicking a lovable pony in some children’s show.
